What is a Subtitler and what do they do?

Subtitlers

Subtitlers are Contributors who translate/transcribe from one language into another language. Generally, English subtitlers are Contributors translate/transcribe from the content’s original language into English first.

Once the English subtitles are complete, other language subtitlers translate the English subtitles into other languages (e.g: French, Spanish, Portuguese, etc.)

Position Requirements

  • Gold QC Gold QC Contributors should not work on more than 5 on-air Channels at the same time as a subtitler, regardless of the channel being considered on-air or library.
  • QC QC Contributors should not work on more than 3 on-air Channels at the same time as a subtitler, regardless of the channel being considered on-air or library.
  • QC Trainee QC Trainee Contributors should not work on more than 1 on-air Channel at the same time as a subtitler, regardless of the channel being considered on-air or library. 

Team Responsibilities

  • To contribute subtitles to parts assigned by the language moderator of their assigned language per each channel.
  • Inform the language moderator (if the language moderator is not available or responsive, please reach out to the Channel Manager) of any breaks or hiatus from your duties as a subtitler.

Channel Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in the Channel subtitling only in the language assigned.
  • Follow the Channel rules set by the Channel Manager and Moderators including the Contributor Guidelines.
  • Always contact Channel Manager and/or Moderators before starting to subtitle, especially on active Channels.
  • Follow Viki's Tips for formatting subtitles to help Viki have a uniform experience across all channels.
